Training Skills

  • Delivery of a pre-prepared training session on a work-related subject chosen by the delegate.

Note: The duration of each delegate's training session varies based on the overall course length and the number of participants. An ideal group size is eight participants.

Preparing a Training Session

  • Key questions for the trainer to consider in advance:
    • Why am I the right person for this role?
    • Logistics: What, where, when, how, and for how long?
    • Understanding how these answers influence the structure of the training
  • Structuring the content:
    • Research: Gain deep knowledge of the subject
    • Organize the content logically
    • Create and utilize complementary visual aids

Preparing the Trainer

  • The three fundamental communication tools for a trainer:
    • Verbal: Word choice; avoid slang and jargon
    • Vocal: Tone and delivery; eliminate distracting verbal tics and pauses
    • Visual: Presenter's appearance; attire, mannerisms, and presence
  • Rehearse the session and seek honest feedback from a trusted source
  • Strategies for managing nerves

Preparing the Environment

  • Room layouts: How seating arrangements convey underlying messages
  • Utilizing the room to enhance the training experience
  • Post-session cleanup

Evaluation

  • The importance of evaluation
  • Processes for obtaining and applying delegate feedback
